History of the Garden
Located in Woodland Park, in the City of Vancouver, the Woodland Community Garden initiative was established in 2012 by a group of community volunteers to provide gardening opportunities to urban residents. Woodland Park is situated in an area bounded by Woodland Drive, Frances Street, McLean Drive, and Adanac Street. The park is a lively community hub, with a playground and pool, regular softball games; dog walkers, picnickers and myriad other park users. The garden hopes to provide the area with another anchor for social interaction and community. Woodland Park Community Garden broke ground on Saturday May 18, 2013 and serious building began on Saturday June 1st. Many people put time and care into creating this garden, please enjoy!
The Woodland Community Garden is situated between two popular baseball diamonds and as such gardeners need to be aware of flying balls and people running in pursuit of them. The north part of the garden (where Georgia St ends) sits atop a City of Vancouver right of way. As such, gardeners with plots in that area may lose their plots in such an occasion that the sewer, water lines or other such utility needs inspection, repair or other such access for the duration of such project, or as determined by the City of Vancouver.
